The Truth About Leo by Katie MacAlister

I give this book 3 stars.

This book is about a spy who gets left for dead, a destitute Princess (Dagmar) and her companion. Dagmar and Julia have to leave Copenhagen, so that Dagmar does not end up in a convent, so they have to find a way to get passage on a ship to England without any money.  The only way is for Dagmar to marry an officer/sailor, so that they will have free passage.  So luckily Julia, Dagmars companion finds Leo injured in the Princess's back garden, they bring him in but the doctor declares that he will not live, so Dagmar sees their ticket to freedom by marrying Leo before he dies.

However, Dagmar tends to Leo so thoroughly that he lives and this is their story of how they found love, deception and murder!

About Katie
For as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn’t think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes.
Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions. More than thirty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and are regulars on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell.
Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dogs, and can often be found lurking around online.

Hero of a Highland Wolf by Terry Spear

I give this book 5 stars.

Well done, once again Terry Spear you have given us a book that kept me engrossed from the start to the finish, so much so that I read this book in one day. This is about an american woman that inherits a castle in Scotland from her family and a pack of Highland wolf shifters that live there.

Grant has lived at the castle since birth and when his father died, he was the one that Neda Playfair the owner of the castle put in charge to run and manage it for her. He is also the clan leader and a big alpha wolf. When Neda died and her son was the owner Grant and him used to butt heads all the time, so when he died and his daughter then inherits the castle, Grant worries that she is going to be just as bad and argumentative has her father. So he planned on frightening her away as soon as he could by putting on a show for her that he thought she would not like. However, what he did not expect was a sexy alpha female wolf to arrive, who loved the show that he put on and proved this by filming it.

Colleen, Neda's granddaughter, unbeknown to Grant and his clan is best friends with Julia who is married to Ian MacNeill, who is the other person Grant is sparring with and she had let her know part of what Grant had planned for her.  Colleens father had lied to her and told her that the clan at the castle were humans so when she arrives and smells wolves she is surprised and Colleen is instantly attracted to Grant and this is their story of finding out about the past, old enemies, murders and love that they try to fight.

This is a well planned out story with a good plot and a great love story.
This is a 'MUST READ' book, enjoy.

Summary:

The MacQuarrie werewolf clan has overseen the Playfair family’s Farraige Castle for three centuries. So when a Playfair granddaughter from abroad inherits the estate, clan chief Grant MacQuarrie has to train her to manage it—and he’s not happy about having her in his way. Until the prim old lady he’s expecting turns out to be a sexy young wolf…

Colleen Playfair is excited and apprehensive about her new role at the castle, and she has big plans to change the way its run. But the stubborn Grant won’t make things easy, and she’s forced to turn to seduction to get her way…

Excerpt

Grant always joked and played with his clansmen when they were through with their work for the day. Well, even while they worked. But being with Colleen here like this felt different. For a moment, he didn’t feel like he served as the manager of her estates while she was the owner and taskmaster. He felt like a man with a woman on a Sunday jaunt in the glen. Except she wasn’t just any woman. She was a she-wolf, her cute little arse jiggling ahead of him as he climbed the hill to join her.

When he reached the top, she was trying to catch her breath and swayed a little. He grabbed her arm, and he didn’t know what came over him. But suddenly he was looking down into her smiling face, as if she was smiling at him, and he wanted in the worst way to kiss her.

She didn’t pull away from him, either.

He shouldn’t kiss her, but damn, he wanted to.

Still breathing hard, her heart beating fast, she placed her hand on his chest. He expected her to push him away, but she didn’t. She just stood there looking up at him, waiting for him to do something. He breathed in her scent, all woman and…interested.

They stood high on top of the hill overlooking the glen, the water rushing by, the sheep grazing on the green grass across the burn, and white clouds passing overhead against the blue sky.

He still had hold of her arm, but then he released her, cupped her face with both hands, and kissed her.

When his lips met hers, he knew he shouldn’t do this. He intended to make it sweet and unassuming, to quench some damnable need that he had to satisfy. He didn’t presume it would go anywhere, and he almost imagined it would be lame and unappealing—-after having built up the expectation that kissing that sweet mouth of hers would make his world spin and topple over. He hadn’t thought she’d crave the intimacy as much as he did. Yet when she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back, she exhibited an eagerness that turned his world on end.

She was more than willing.

Hi,
The 2nd in my book blitz is If I Stay by Tamara Morgan, again this is the first time I have read anything by this author and as before I will be looking out for more by this lady.  I read this book in a few hours, as I found it difficult to put down.  The story is about a recovering alcoholic and a sweet local girl.  They both have done things that they are not proud of and together they help each other to come clean and heal. Read on for a summary and excerpt.
I give this book 5 stars.
Summary
Ryan Lucas would rather be anywhere but Ransom Creek, Connecticut. After losing his high-adrenaline career as a Hollywood stunt driver, he's had to tuck his tail between his legs and take up employment as a chauffeur for the Montgomerys, a wealthy hotelier family.
Amy Sanders has returned home to Ransom Creek to take over her mother's former position as nanny to the Montgomerys—bringing her close to dashing Jake Montgomery once again. She grew up with a major crush on Jake, and it's not easy to leave those feelings behind, even though her friendship with the hard-edged family chauffeur, Ryan, has a sizzling undercurrent of undeniable attraction.
Amy's determined to prove to Ryan that life at Montgomery Manor isn't all bad, but each time they draw closer Jake swoops in. Amy is torn between two men—and two worlds. And Ryan is rapidly coming to learn that if he wants to make Amy his, he'll have to prove to her that life downstairs can be everything they both want.
Excerpt
Amy scooted out from underneath Ryan and got to shaky legs. Giving in to the indulgence of a backward glance to find him staring openmouthed at her, she lifted her shirt off and tossed it to the hallway floor.
“What are you doing?” he asked, his voice gruff.
She kept moving, an extra sway in her hips as she unbuttoned her shorts and shimmied them off her hips. “Leaving you a trail of bread crumbs in case you get lost along the way.”
“Amy…”
She reached behind her and flicked open her serviceable white cotton bra. The only way to dress up that kind of bland plant material was to dangle it enticingly from one fingertip, which she did as she reached her door. It wasn’t locked—unless someone wanted to steal her ancient ten-pound laptop or her collection of Old World maps, there wasn’t much to take—so she pushed it open and slipped in.
One. Two. Three. Four. She flicked on the lights, assuming Ryan was right behind her. Five. Six. Seven. Was he seriously not going to follow her in here? Eight. Nine. Nine and a half.
She slipped out of her panties—more of the same boring white cotton, though at least they had bits of scalloped lace at the edges—and tossed them out the open door.
Nine and two-thirds. Nine and three-quarters. What the heck came after that?
“Goddammit.” Ryan stormed through the door and tossed all her clothes onto the floor. “Are you trying to kill me?”
He stopped, suspended in a swirl of desire that hit him from all sides, holding him momentarily aloft. In his haste to somehow find the ability to both walk and gather up Amy’s clothes, he’d forgotten that he held all her underclothes. Nothing stood between him and her completely naked body except distance and air—both of which mattered for absolutely zero.
Author Biography
Tamara Morgan is a contemporary romance author of humorous, heartfelt stories with flawed heroes and heroines designed to get your hackles up and make your heart melt. Her long-lived affinity for romance novels survived a B.A. degree in English Literature, after which time she discovered it was much more fun to create stories than analyze the life out of them.
Whether building Victorian dollhouses, consuming mass quantities of coffee and wine, or crying over cheesy 1950s musicals, Tamara commits to her flaws like every good heroine should. She lives in the Inland Northwest with her husband, daughter, and variety of household pets and only occasionally complains about the weather.

Hot Shot by Lynn Raye Harris

HotShot    LynnRayeHarrisBlitz

I give this book a definite well earned 5 stars.

I am a great fan of Suzanne Brockmann, but Lynn Raye Harris has taken the top spot above her as my new favourite author of military romance books. I have not read a military romance for a while now but the wait was well worth it. This story is about Gina a famous pop star and Jack (Hawk) Hunter the Hostile Operations Team (HOT) sniper. They meet when Jack and his team are sent to stop an arms deal going down and Gina is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jack saves Gina and they had to spend 3 days hiding out till they got extracted from the island, and that leads to a baby, kidnappings and attraction so strong that Jack finds it hard to deny, even though he tries. The well detailed story line explains all about the other characters in the book too, giving you a very descriptive view so that you can definitely imagine what is wrote on the page. Well done Lynn Raye Harris for a great read. This is a definite 'must read'.

Excerpt

A few minutes later Jack came into the bedroom. She thought she should tell him to knock first or something, but she didn’t have the energy. The barriers that would normally be there between her and a man just weren’t there with Jack.

“You didn’t eat enough on the plane. I ordered room service.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Gina.” He walked into the room and stopped in front of her. His blue eyes roamed her face while her heart kicked up. When he met her eyes again, her breath hitched. “You have to rest and you have to eat. We don’t know what’s going to happen, and you need to be strong. That’s one of the rules on a mission. Take care of yourself or you’re no good to your team.”

“I’m not part of your team. I’m just me.”
“You aren’t alone on this. We’re here, and that makes you part of the team. I’m ordering you to eat, same as I’d order my spotter or anyone else under my authority, and then I’m ordering you to rest.”

“I’m not under your authority.” Maybe she should be angry at the way he was talking to her, but she was oddly touched. God, just blame it on stress and a situation outside her control. She needed to push this man away, but she couldn’t seem to do it.

“Think of this like the island. I’m the one with the experience. I know what I’m doing. I got you out of there, didn’t I?”
She nodded.
“Trust me to get you out of here too, okay?”
“All right.”

He lifted an eyebrow. “You gonna eat when the food gets here?”
“Depends on what you ordered. I hate squash, for instance.”
“Then I’ll call and cancel the squash sandwich.”

She couldn’t help but laugh even though it had an edge that could turn into panic at any moment. “You didn’t order anything of the sort.”

“No.” He backed away and reached for the door handle. “Put on your pajamas. Get comfortable.”
“I don’t wear pajamas. I don’t wear anything.”

He stopped in mid-swing and she wanted to laugh again. She did wear pajamas, but she’d wanted to rattle him. Just because.
“Well, honey, you can come out here in nothing if you want, but it’ll probably be embarrassing for you and the delivery person both. Still, you can tip him good and I’m sure it’ll be fine.”

He shot her a grin before shutting the door behind him. Gina stood there with her heart pounding and her pulse skipping and wondered just what it was about him that made her want to get beneath his skin.

She’s a bit quirky, marches to her own drummer, and has a fine, fine appreciation of the manly form.

If you choose mostly Bs …
then you are clearly the stuff a baroness is made of, much like Millicent, from The Traitor. Milly is sweet, fierce, determined, and brave but slow to trust. Sebastian, Baron St. Clair, is ALSO sweet, fierce, determined and brave, and relentless when it comes to protecting those he cares for. Alas for both Sebastian and Milly, an enemy stalks them who is not sweet. By the time Milly is done with Sebastian's enemies, they are not very brave either. So if you chose mostly B's, the bad guys better steer mighty clear of you!

If you choose mostly Cs …
then you are equipped to be a master spy like Jane Bonde from Love and Let Spy by Shana Galen. Jane is smart, cunning, and loyal, but she has her weaknesses too. Her latest weakness goes by the name Dominic Griffyn. Planning a wedding and defeating a villain intent upon the destruction of England is tricky, but if you're the sort who multitasks easily, then you too have Jane's unique skills and panache.

The Traitor by Grace Burrowes

This book is the 2nd book in this series, the first one was The Captive and this story follows on from that, and is about Sebastian St Clair otherwise known as Robert Girard - one of the supposed villains in the last book.  Sebastian  was abandoned in France when he was a boy, despite being an heir to an English Barony, he had to make impossible decisions to survive in the French army. When he returns to England he is known as the Traitor Baron and old enemies keep challenging him to duels to fight for his honour. Sebastian does not think that he will live till his old age as he is asked for numerous duels, so he tries not to accompany his aunt or Millicent very much as he is afraid that they will be hurt because they are associated to him.

Millicent Danforth is a companion to Lady Frederica, Baroness St Clair, the Traitor Barons aunt.  She escaped her life to become a companion because she wanted to get away from her cousins and Lady Frederica had given her a life line and taken her in as her employ.

The story then goes on to tell you about Sebastian's past and what he has had to endure and his and Millicent's feelings towards each other as they grow. There are twist and turns to this story, some I never even guessed about, all in all I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series as it flows from one book to the next giving you more insight  and depth into the characters that you met in The Captive. I thought I would hate Sebastian but I ended up loving his character,  it is a well thought out way to make him a hero.
