It's In His Kiss by Jill Shalvis

I give this book 5 stars

As some of you know I am an avid Jill Shalvis fan and what can I say - she has done it again. Becca Thorpe is a woman who is running away from her past and lands in Lucky Harbor to regroup. It is on the beach, on her arrival that she meets Sam Brody, the local boat builder and she feels the attraction to him straight away. Becca applies for a job working for Sam and his two partners, however, Sam does not want her to work for him as he knows that he is also attracted to her and he does not mix business and pleasure. So he gives her an ultimatum - him or the job. The story then goes on to tell you why Becca left the city and ended up in Lucky Harbor  and it goes on to show you how things that you may think is unrepairable - can be repaired as she learns to trust others and herself.

Lucky Harbor is a place that does not exist but the way Jill tells her story, you can imagine yourself living there, among all the great characters- I would love to meet Lucille as I think that I would love to be like her when I am older. I can not wait for the next look into Lucky Harbor.

MEATLESS ALL DAY by Dina Cheney

I know my blog is supposed to be about romance novels but some times I need to let you know what else is good out there.

Sorry but I love meat and I thought that this book would not be of benefit to me but these recipes just made my mouth water. I have a friend who is a vegetarian and I can not wait to do some of these for her and the rest of my family. The recipes are colourful and look extremely tasty. I will now look for more books by Dina, keep up the good work.

Facing the Music by Andrea Laurence

Well, what can I say - If you like your books not far fetched and one that could be a true life story then - THIS BOOK IS A MUST BUY. I have not read anything by this author before and I am sorry its taken me this long to find her. The story is about a rock star (with a bad press), a retired football star, childhood love, enemies and second chances. The great mix of nice and nasty characters all gel well together in this book and make it what it is - which is a fabulous read. I can not wait for the next Rosewood series book which is out in Spring 2015, and I am wondering which of the characters they will be about as I think this will be a great series of books as the characters all need their stories told.

I know I have said it before but I really could not put this book down, I read whenever I got a spare minute as it is a fantastic feel good love story, one where you are routing for the main characters to get their 'happy ever after', I am now waiting in anticipation for the next instalment.

Summary

Five years ago, high school sweethearts Ivy and Blake’s relationship imploded and both their lives were changed forever. Ivy became a rock star and Blake lost not only his dreams of a successful NFL career, but his reputation. Ivy’s angry song about their breakup, called “Size Matters”; hit the top of the charts and Blake became a national laughingstock. He’s salvaged his career and returned to Rosewood to be the high school football coach, regaining his status as town hero and leading the boys to the state championships.

When a tornado whips through town and destroys the high school gymnasium and stadium, a committee is formed to help rebuild and plan some charity fundraisers. Blake’s grandmother requests that Ivy return to Rosewood for the events. Forced back together for the good of their hometown and their careers, Ivy and Blake have no choice but to put aside their differences, stop running from their pasts, and finally face the music.

Excerpt

God must be rewarding him for his patience. That had to be the answer. There was no other reason why he would trip over a scenario this sweet. Ivy was outside wearing nothing but a pair of bikini bottoms and a frown.

Blake killed the engine and slowly pulled his boat up to the dock. He tied it up, taking careful steps to secure his baby and make Ivy wait as long as humanly possible. From what he could see, she wasn’t going anywhere, even if she wanted to.

He climbed onto the dock and strolled causally over to the Hudson cabin with his hands thrust into his pockets. Taking his time, Blake soaked in every delicious detail, from Ivy’s irritated scowl to the full globes of her breasts pressed beneath her inadequate hands. He’d never been so jealous of a pair of hands in his life.

His jeans tightened uncomfortably as his inspection ran over her mostly bare body. He was frankly surprised by the reaction. Not because she wasn’t a beautiful and sexy woman—she was; that was a given—but because his dick had a deep, abiding hatred of Ivy. So did the rest of him, but it was his penis that had become the center of national attention for being woefully inadequate. At the moment, however, he had ample evidence to the contrary.

Summary

There is a spy in S&D systems who is leaking top-secret information that could lead to extreme disaster. It's up to Shane Gallagher to uncover the mole and set things right.

Systems analyst Elena Reyes had no intention of stealing company secrets until her brother's life was threatened by the cruelest of mobsters. When Elena finally confesses her deeds to Shane, he's ready to do everything he can to keep her out of danger. But will Shane's help be enough to protect them, or will his good intentions leave them all for dead?

Excerpt

Elena had never thought about seducIng a man. She wasn’t even sure of her moves. But she knew that Shane wanted her, even if he wasn’t prepared to admit it. She also knew he felt protective of her, which was probably part of the conflict he must be feeling.

Before he could come up with another objection, she cupped the back of his head with her hands and brought his face down as she raised her own head toward him.

She hadn’t been sure what would happen. Or perhaps she’d been afraid that he’d wrench himself away from her. But the danger must have affected his emotions as well as her own. When their lips met, it was as though someone had tossed a match into a pile of gasoline- soaked kindling. Invisible flames rose as heat flared between them.

She heard him growl her name and felt him gather her closer as he kissed her with purpose, running his hands up and down her back.

The heat coming off him made her dizzy. She should be afraid, but she kept kissing him, letting him feel all the passion that she’d held inside herself for so long.

Opening her lips, she invited him to explore her mouth, then did the same with him, absorbing his taste and the way the mouth-to-mouth contact sent shock waves to every part of her body.

“You know that you’re playing with fire?” he asked.

“I know what I want.”

“Then take off your clothes.”

Again, a dose of reality. Was she ready to get undressed in front of him? Or was she going to back away—the way he hoped she would.

She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of scaring her off. Not because she was trying to score any points, but because what she wanted hadn’t changed, even if he was trying to make her take a step back.

She did step back, but only a few feet. She kept her gaze on him as she reached for the hem of the T-shirt and pulled it over her head, then let it drop on the floor so that she stood before him naked to the waist…

GRACE BURROWES

The Captive by Grace Burrowes

I give this book 4 stars.
This story is about a returning war hero and a woman who helps him and his daughter back to life.  The start to this book I personally found a bit slow to get going but I would recommend that you still read the book as the story line is a lovely historical romance.  It has a few twists and turns that keep you guessing till the end to the who did it?

Book Information

Author: Grace Burrowes
Release Date: July 1, 2014
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Genre: Historical Romance

Summary

Captured and tortured by the French, Christian Severn, Duke of Mercia, survives by vowing to take revenge on his tormentors. Before the duke can pursue his version of justice, Gillian, Countess of Greendale, reminds him that his small daughter has suffered much in his absence, and needs her papa desperately.

Gilly endured her difficult marriage by avoiding confrontation and keeping peace at any cost. Christian's devotion to his daughter and his kindness toward Gilly give her hope that she could enjoy a future with him, for surely he of all men shares her loathing for violence in any form. Little does Gilly know, the battle for Christian's heart is only beginning.

Excerpt

The countess brought Christian’s hand up, holding the back of it against the extraordinary softness of her cheek. Until he’d taken liberties with her in the library, he’d forgotten how wonderfully, startlingly soft a woman’s cheek could be. As soft as sunshine and summer rain, as soft as the quiet of the English countryside.

“Shall we sit?” he asked, though she’d likely release his hand if they sat. He was a widower, though, and she ought not to begrudge him simple human contact when he’d been so recently bereaved.

She let him lead her to a shaded bench near the roses, the morning air faintly redolent of their perfume. When Christian seated her, the countess kept his damaged hand in hers.

“I was not allowed to garden at Greendale,” she said, fingers drifting over his knuckles. “The estate had gardens, because his lordship would not be seen to neglect his acres, but I was forbidden to walk them, or to dig about in the good English soil, or to consult with the gardeners regarding the designs and plantings.”

Based on the studied casualness of her tone, this prohibition had been irksome.

“You are free to garden here all you like,” Christian said. “I ask only that you not disturb my mother’s roses.”

“They are lovely.”

“She was lovely.”

Another silence, while Christian became aware of his surroundings beyond the small hand holding his. The roses were in their early summer glory, and why Polite Society insisted on staying in Town through most of June was incomprehensible, when the alternative was the English countryside. The sunshine was a perfectly weighted beneficence on his cheek, the scent of the gardens heavenly, and the entire morning aurally gilded with the fluting chorus of songbirds.

He wanted to kiss the lady beside him again, not in thanks, not as a good-night benediction, but for the sheer pleasure of the undertaking.

JAGUAR HUNT BY TERRY SPEAR

I am a good fan of shifter stories and I will say that Terry Spear has written a well thought out story here, it kept me guessing till the end - who the bad guys where.  The hero is a sexy Jaguar shifter and the heroine, also a Jaguar shifter, is a woman who prefers to work alone so she tries to ditch him at the first chance. These characters are very likeable and end up working well together. I give this book 5 stars as it flowed through out the whole story.

Summary

An agent and a jaguar-shifter chase trouble, and each other, through the jungles of Belize
Agent Tammy Anderson has a reputation: she prefers to work alone. So when she's paired up on a mission with jaguar-shifter David Patterson-who's only recently been released from jail-to say she's less than thrilled is a understatement. Until she realizes that this sexy agent has what it takes...
Soon, what started as an "easy" mission to locate a missing jaguar takes the pair to Belize, where they're chasing down two renegade teen shifters who know more than they're telling. As the action heats up, can they keep their minds on the job and off each other?

Excerpt

“Good night.” David closed his eyes, but he couldn’t stop taking in deep breaths of her jasmine soap and she-cat scent mixed into one delightful fragrance. He couldn’t ignore the beat of her heart - or his - that told him he was way too turned on, and that she was feeling the same way. He couldn’t help feeling the heat of her body and wanting to ratchet it up a few degrees, starting with a kiss.

A kiss. Hell, he’d never gone to bed with a woman when it meant total hands off. But lips...they didn’t count, did they?

She’d closed her eyes, but she wasn’t sleeping. She hadn’t pulled away from him, giving him her back. That meant something. Didn’t it?

He could ask. And she could say no.

He could kiss her, and when she got ready to slap him, he’d tell her it was a good-night kiss. And it would be. Unless she wanted more.

He could get lucky and she’d kiss him back.

Somehow it didn’t seem right to go to bed with a woman and not at least kiss her good night.

She opened her eyes to see him looking down at her - well, he was judging her lips, but when they curved up a bit, he lifted his gaze to meet her eyes and saw she was watching him.

“What?” she asked.

He couldn’t say it. David Patterson, who had no trouble interesting women in kisses and so much more, couldn’t say it.

“Don’t...tell...me. You want a good-night kiss,” she said, but he wasn’t certain whether she was offering or...not.
Not about to lose the opportunity, he placed his hand under her chin, lifted her face, and waited only the briefest period for her to pull away if she wasn’t in the mood for this. When she didn’t, he leaned down and kissed her mouth.
